The Best Thing Out There!

We have three children and we recently purchased Recaro Vivo seats for our oldest two. After seeing the Vivo side by side with the competing Britax, the Britax just didn't compare as far as side-impact protection - even as good of a seat as Britax makes. We have a friend who was t-boned over a year ago and hurt pretty badly, so I'm even more picky about side-impact protection than before. Recaro is certainly a cut above everyone else in that department. My kids LOVE these seats as well. They are very comfortable and the kids' heads rest on the side wings when they're asleep instead of flopping around. The height adjustment is a BIG plus as well - we know the kids will be fully protected as they grow. I actually like the fact that the Vivo is a little narrower. We have a F-150 supercrew and while there was room to get to the seatbelts with three Graco seats across the back (we're getting a Young Sport for our little guy), it wasn't much. The Vivo definitely helped out a lot in that department. And I can get to dropped Cheerios much easier too. :) I've never really put my kids in their seats with bulky coats on as it kind-of negates part of the functionality of any restraint, so the fact that it is a little more narrow than the Graco or Britax doesn't bother me at all. And my kids still have plenty of room to grow. Overall this is a wonderful seat - I don't really have any complaints and neither do my kids. I fully realize everyone is different, but I would not hesitate one moment to recommend one of these seats to anyone.

Good Booster

I ordered this booster b/c of the head protection, and b/c of Recaro's reputation for safety. I was a little concerned my 5 yr old would feel hemmed in by the head wings, but he's happy in the seat. He still has good visibilty and he likes being able to rest his head to one side. The seat belt path is a bit fussy in comparason to my old Compass booster. Its belt path across the lap sits lower along the hip, and I need to take a minute to make sure its properly threaded through. I know at least one reviewer complained that the seatbelt does not retract back after your child leans foward but I have not had this problem. Overall, good seat - my son is comfortable, and I feel like his head is particularly well protected (more so than in my old Compass).

We have been pleased with this seat as the design is nice and it appears to be made very well. My daughter likes it and sleeps in it better as this model reclines.

We bought this seat after our Graco seats started to show wear and I wasn't ready yet for a backless booster for my 7 and 5 year olds yet. I love how sturdy this seat is. Unlike the Graco, it doesn't come apart when you carry it from car to car, and it is heavy enough that it will never tip to one side when the child wiggles around. The fabric is super soft, although it may not be quite as breathable in the summer months. It is wider than other seats I've seen, but still fits great in my van. I have two of them side-by-side in a 2nd row bench seat of my Dodge Caravan. The only thing I don't completly like about this seat are the belt guides. The shoulder belt guides are at a funny angle and while the shoulder belt stays in place during use, as soon as you release the seat belt, the shoulder belt comes out of the guide. So, I have to re-thread them everytime (I don't trust my children to re-thread them properly at this age). Also, the lap belt must be maneuvered by an adult to kind of "thread" it under the armrest. So, my children can no longer put their own seat belts on. Another inch or two of room between the armrest and the seat would have allowed children to be able to manipulate the seat belt more easily. All that said, I still love the seat. It's a great seat for the money and should hold up for a long time. My kids love them too, and are very comfy riding in them. They have both napped in their carseats, and no longer have the problem of their heads flopping over. I love ordering from this site, and the seats (bought separately, about two weeks apart) each arrived in about 4 days with standard shipping. I've returned items to this site before, and it was very easy to do, so if you think you might like it, I'd give it a try!

Need to re-do belt guides

Reviewer: Ann , Salt Lake City, UT Date: December 05, 2007
Pros: This seat has a nice material covering, very spill-resistant and soft. Plush cushioning, my daughter says it's comfortable. Reinforced with aluminum (I wish all boosters did this), so safer/sturdier than most other boosters. Nice side-impact protection, I love how it surrounds my daughter, and she doesn't mind the head wings. She likes to lean her head on them when she's tired. Cons: The seat belt guides were either not thought-out well or not tried out in very many vehicles because they leave much to be desired. First the shoulder belt guides-- They're at such an angle (about 90 degrees to the seat back) that the seat belt folds inside of it, causing it to be twisted across my daughter's body. And this makes it so that the seat belt does not retract on its own. You have to pull it back through the backside of the belt guide to make it cinch up so that there's no slack across her body. So when we're driving, if she ever leans forward, she has to manually pull the slack back out of the seat belt. Luckily my daughter's good about doing this, but I know a lot of kids who wouldn't remember to do it and therefore would be in danger in an accident. And now the lower belt guides (across her hips). These are between the armrests and the seat (like on most booster), but the space given for the seatbelt is very small and my daugher also has to pull hard on the shoulder part of the seatbelt when getting in, in order to tighten it across her hips. Basically the belt guides in this car seat need to be redone. The shoulder guides are at too sharp of an angle in comparison to how most seatbelts come into them, and the hip belt guides are too tight. Over all I like this carseat a lot, I feel like it provides superior protection to my child over other brands, but only because she's so conscious of her seatbelt and keeping it tight. I probably won't be buying one of these for my son when he gets big enough because he's not as conscious about these things.
