Our Review of the Britax Boulevard convertible car seat

  • Britax has just implemented a new, patent-pending, energy absorbing rip-stitch tether for all Boulevard convertible car seats.

It is all about the wings with the Britax Boulevard convertible car seat - head and torso safety wings help keep your child from harm in a side-impact crash. And this matters - side-impact crashes are the leading cause of death for 6 - 14 year-old children.

Of course, the safety wings are only one of the many safety features that the Britax Boulevard offers: built-in lock-offs, 5-point harness with front adjuster, tangle-free webbing, a push button release LATCH system with Versa-Tether®, and a sculpted base, ensuring an easy installation with a secure fit.

Safety aside, the Boulevard also comes with some of the nicest comfort features - a plush, washable cover and patented HUGS system that's designed to better distribute webbing loads to reduce head movement and minimize the chance for webbing edge loading on the child's neck in the case of an impact. In addition, the Boulevard is designed to reduce the chance of improper chest clip positioning.

In the past, we found that although side-impact "wings" provide a higher level of safety, some parents experienced difficulties getting their children to sit properly in the wings. Some parents feel that wings are too restrictive, and prevent children from seeing out the side windows - causing their kids to lean forward out of the seat. However, Britax seems to have paid attention to parents' feedback on previous models, because the Boulevard's wings come out at an angle that allows your child a good view of her surroundings - while still providing side-impact protection.

If you are looking for a wingless convertible car seat, or a car seat better suited for long drives, you may want to check out the Britax Decathlon.

*Please note: Use vehicle seat belt (not LATCH connectors) for installations with children weighing more than 48 pounds (21 kg.). Refer to the vehicle's owner's manual or contact the vehicle manufacturer for the maximum weight rating for their LATCH anchors. Unless specified otherwise by the vehicle manufacturer, assume a 48 pound child is the vehicle LATCH anchor limit.

Love it - Ordering another

Reviewer: Anonymous , Sherman Oaks, CA Date: June 16, 2008
We ordered one of these first to be sure it fit in our 1999 plymouth voyager minivan and that our sone liked it. My husband installed it and it is very snug in the car. My son seems to like it, I tried out our almost three year old in it and he seemed to like it so we are ordering one for him as well. We currently have the Britax Marathons from 2005 and we love those as well. But, we love the side impact protection and it really helps us feel we are doing everything we can to keep our boys safe.

not making it to 65lbs

This is a great seat in many ways- the straps are such an improvement from our last car seat- they don't get twisted and I like that they velcro out of the way (sort of) when you put your child into the seat. I really like the head "wings." Not only for side impact protection but they support the head when the child falls asleep in the car. My son can see around them fine. As for the fit, it is great for my 15month old. He's 80-90th percentile for height and weight which seems to be okay- still lots of room to grow. We would have liked to keep him rear facing to the seat's limit of 33 lbs however, his legs are too long and get really scrunched rear facing now so we had to turn him around foreward facing. My only disappointment is that I'm thinking it's not going to work to 65lbs because my 5year old who's about 46" tall and weights about 47lbs does not fit into this seat. He's well under the maximum height and weight for the seat but it's not even close.

Great Seat, But Not EXACTLY What We Expected

I love the Britax line of car seats. For my baby shower, a wonderful friend purchased the Britax Marathon with the Cowmooflage seatcover from elitecarseats.com. My husband and I (and now my 19 month-old daughter) love the seat and it's cover. It' so soft and comfy. Plus it has nifty storage compartments for the latch system (if it's not in use). So, when it was time to "pay-it-forward" and buy a Britax car seat for my dear friend, I thought of this website. I purchased a Boulevard convertible car seat with the Park Avenue cover. She and her husband had seen the same car seat at a certain big name baby store for much more money. I found it at Elite's site for far less. It was ordered on a Wednesday and arrived the following Monday (less than a week's time). I was thrilled with the delivery time, as was the recipient. However the cover, although sharing the same name (Park Avenue) was very different than what's available in the store. It has muted pink colors instead of deep purple. Perhaps it's an older model or a factory defect. Regardless, the price and the overall quality of the car seat outweighs the slight color change of the seat cover. It's still the best buy around!

Excellent Seat

I had the Wizard for 3 years and decided to upgrade to the Boulevard when it was time to buy a new car seat for my 7 month old son. So now I have two of them and I love them!! I feel my children are very secure and safe in these seats. I know Britax car seats tend to be more expensive, however it is the only thing that will keep your children safe in the car so it is worth every dollar you spend!!

Great seat

Purchased this convertable seat to replace the infant carrier my son quickly grew out of and wanted something that would last us a few years. Did a lot of research and although it is on the expensive side I feel this was the best/safest seat for him. We recently went on a long road trip and he was very comfortable, did not overheat and was able to play with toys and kick his feet around- keeping him occupied and naps weren't a problem. Pretty easy to install and buckle him in. The seat is very large though, we weren't able to recline the seat in front of it (he is still rear facing) it will work better once he can face forward. Overall I am happy with the purchase and how quickly we recieved it through elitecarseats.com.

NOT a great fit for TALL toddlers

3
Reviewer: C. Fasl , Huntington Beach, CA Date: February 18, 2008
My son just turned 3 year old; is 37 pounds & 40" tall. So out of the Roundabout (loved that car seat) and in to what we thought would be a great carseat, since it goes up to 49" tall. But the caveat here is the SHOULDER HEIGHT measurement. My son is 14.5 inches to the shoulder and the Boulevard's highest shoulder position is 17.5 inches. So what we thought would be 9" of growth room, turned out to be 3 inches. We will now have to settle for no side impact protection in the Regent. Hate to do it, but 3" will only go another few months at the rate he's sprouting up. Just really make note of those other measurements, not just the overall height.

Worth the money

We just bought our second Britax Boulevard (Regal) car seat. We loved the fact that we could use it from the first drive home from the hospital (with the addition of a head support pillow at first) until our baby is almost 70 pounds. It appears to be a very comfortable seat for our baby and, most importantly, it gives mommy and daddy comfort knowing that it is a very safe seat. I especially love that our little girl can sit rear-facing if we choose (the safest direction) until she is 33 pounds, much longer than many of the other seats on the market. The side impact protection that it provides was also a good selling point for us as well. Our baby is 10 months old now and the seat has been a great investment for us - so much so that we just invested in another one to put in our other car. We would highly recommend this car seat for other families.

Happy, But.....

We love the seat and our son seems to be very comfortable, but we have tremendous trouble pulling the straps tight enough fo a "two finger" fit. We had Britax replace the seat and we are still having the same problem. If it were easier to tighten, we wouldn't be happier.

The Best

I have 4 kids and have been through a lot of carseats--this is the third type of Britax and it is by far the best. It is super easy to install and to adjust. We have two in carseats now and they both seem very comfortable.
