based on 43 reviewsSafety 1st Go Hybrid Convertible Booster Description
Keep your child secure in a 5-point harness up to 65 lbs. The Safety 1st Go Hybrid booster, formerly the SafeGuard Go, starts out as a forward-facing 5-point harness seat that accommodates children up to 65 lbs, and then converts to a backless booster that accommodates children up to 100 lbs. The Go Hybrid is easy to install and convenient for transferring among vehicles for carpooling or travel.
Standout Features:
- Forward-facing 5-point harness seat that converts to a backless booster
- Installs in less than one minute
- Unique and convenient folding design is ideal for travel
- No re-thread harness easily adjusts to fit child’s height
Benefits for You: The soft-backed Safety 1st Go Hybrid booster offers the same safety benefits of youth and toddler combination seats, which function first as a harnessed forward-facing seat, then a belt-positioning booster. But the Go Hybrid booster is a more compact and travel-friendly package, making it ideal for on-the-go families.
This Hybrid booster combines the easy portability of a backless booster with a unique 5-point harness and LATCH installation. Transport the Go Hybrid from one vehicle to another without any hassle in less than one minute.
Installation: The Safety 1st Go Hybrid booster installs in two ways: as a backless booster seat for use with the seat belt, or as a forward-facing 5-point harnessed seat with LATCH.
*Important Note: In order to use the Safety 1st Go Hybrid in use with the 5-point harness, your vehicle must have a top tether anchor to secure the soft back, headrest and harness.
For use as a harnessed seat; for children at least 1 year old and from 22-65 lbs:
- Lap/Shoulder Belt + Top Tether
- Lap Belt + Top Tether
- Lower Anchors + Top Tether (LATCH)
For use as a booster; for children from 40-100 lbs:
- Lower Anchors
- No installation – simply position and secure child with Lap and Shoulder Belt
*Note on LATCH Weight Limits: Your vehicle may state a set weight limit for its LATCH anchors (40 or 48 lbs). However, this weight limit does not apply to the Go Hybrid when used as a backless booster because the Lower Anchors are only intended to secure the weight of the booster seat itself (approximately 9 lbs in this case). The vehicle’s lap and shoulder belts secure the weight of the child; because of this, you can use LATCH with the Go Hybrid up to 100 lbs as a booster. For LATCH use with your child harnessed over 40 lbs, refer to your vehicle owner’s manual.
Benefits for Baby: Keep your little one safely secured in a 5-point harness up to 65 lbs. Once your child outgrows the Safety 1st Go Hybrid harness, the seat converts to a backless booster for passengers up to 100 lbs.
The soft cushioned seat and armrests provide your child with comfortable seating for an enjoyable ride. The headrest features even thicker padding for added support, and the adjustable crotch strap creates a snug fit to accommodate growing children.
Safety:
- 5-point harness
- Meets or exceeds FMVSS 213
Comparison: The Go Hybrid is in a class of its own, establishing a new standard for child vehicle safety systems. Its uniqueness makes it difficult to compare to other car seat models, but if you’re looking for a harnessed seat capable of converting to a booster, here are a couple of options.
The Britax Frontier is a toddler car seat suitable for kids at least 25 lbs, 2 years old and 30″ tall. The Frontier exceeds the Go Hybrid’s harnessed weight limitation of 65 lbs, and accommodates children up to 80 lbs. However, the Frontier is quite a bit heavier than the Go Hybrid making it bulkier and less travel-friendly.

Differences between the Safeguard Go and the Go Hybrid
5 stars
Reviewer: Anonymous , Concord, CA Date: March 05, 2010
When I needed my 6 year old daughter’s Radian 80SL for the new baby, I decided to move her to the Safeguard Go like her big brother. However, they no longer make the Safeguard Go. It is now made by Safety First and is called the Go Hybrid. This is actually a good thing, since my daughter didn’t find the Safeguard Go comfortable at the time we bought the one for my son.
I still like it very much. The newer version is much more “cushy” and comfortable. That made my daughter much happier about moving into this seat. This extra padding does make it more bulky than the Safeguard Go but not by much. I definitely like the more substantial padded headrest on the new version since she still falls asleep in the car on occasion. The additional crotch strap position is also nice since my daughter is of a smaller frame than her brother.
The differences that I don’t like are few but there. When it converts to a backless booster, they now recommend NOT using the LATCH anchors to hold the seat steady in the car. I really like having the anchors in place because it doesn’t allow the seat to shift like other boosters. It also doesn’t come with the small plastic seat belt clip that holds the car belt in place at the shoulder with a small tether to the seat. My son outgrew his harness but the car belt did not fall across the body correctly despite his height. I’m not sure why those two changes were made. Those features really made the seat stand out against other backless boosters.
All in all, I still love the Safeguard Go seat and the new Go Hybrid is just as great as a 5 point harness. It is very compact and we traveled with my son’s seat and found it easy to do. The Radian 80′s were nice to travel with as well, but they were heavy making for awkward handling of luggage with four kids under the age of 7 (at the time) and bags. We need to travel with all 5 kids soon, and we will probably move our two younger boys into the “Go” seats with harnesses attached. I’m still debating bringing the Radian 80 for the baby because of the weight issue.

I don’t write a lot of reviews but felt that I needed to for this one, because I absolutely LOVE it! I have 2yr old twins and the big car seats are too heavy and take up too much room in the car. The Go Hybrid has everything I was looking for and delivers it all in a great package! The seats are very light and secure better and tighter than the bigger car seats. The best part is that they are easy to take out and put into another car! (now that the twins are able to go on play dates that was a must) The best part is that they are SO EASY to travel with! don’t hesitate just buy it, you won’t be disappointed!

I bought this seat for the safety plus compactness for trips. I had some concerns that it did not have the hard top for protection in crashes, although I never thought we would be putting that to the test. We were involved in a head on collision where another car came around a corner out of control and took out our front wheel/axle, so we rolled in our little Honda Element multiple times. My son was seated behind me in his SafeGuard Go and besides being scared only had a little skinned elbow to show for our crash. Our car was totalled, and I would highly recommend Honda too. I immediately ordered a new SafeGuard Go and have total!!! confidence that it is completely safe for my son. Pretty easy to travel with too.
I love these seats

I wanted a seat with a 5 point harness when my son outgrew his carseat but didn’t feel he was ready for a booster. The LATCH is a great addition. I feel he’s safer in an accident if his booster stays in place. Just ordered the newest version for my daughter to start using. Great for travel and super light and easy to carry around and install.
Excellent – Highly Recommended!

This seat lives up to its promises! It is SUPER easy to install. Worked in all of the seven vehicles it has been in so far. Even my friend with a very old convertible was able to install it in seconds!! My daughter feels like a “big girl” and as long as the back seat reclines a little she’s very comfy. It does tend to get cereal, goldfish and “other” things in all its little crevasses quite easily so I have to take it out, shake it and sometimes vacuum it once a week but overall its the best seat I have ever had experience with. Very strongly consider this long use bad boy!!!! You will not be disappointed…I rarely give good reviews

I have only had the car seat for a few days but I LOVE the mechanics of it. I have a really big 3 year old and he is not ready for backless booster by law b/c he is so young but this carseat really fit my needs. I love that it has “smart” claws to latch to the seat and also has the ability if you don’t have those latches to attach the base by the seatbelt too. I think this is helpful b/c one of the best features of this booster is that it folds down so small, is pretty light weight and comes with a carrying case which all make it very condusive to travel, which means that the car you are going to be riding in may or may not have latches in the seats. It seems to be very good quality and like someone thought about all the things a car seat should have to make a mom’s life easier…easy install, sturdy construction, ties for extra strap length, easy install clasps, portability, converting from 5 pt harness to just a seat belt bottom booster. If you have a back tether (which you have to have to use this car seat since it doesn’t have a shell) you will love this car seat.
