I have to agree with the other reviewer that this seat is poorly designed for RF. The rounded base makes it very unstable. I can get a good install with the seat perfectly level but the tiniest jiggle on the back moves it out of place such that it feels very unstable. Totally not OK for case where other children are likely to bump the seat and move it out of a level position.
Unsafe Product!! DO NOT BUY!

When rear-facing, this car seat will flip towards the back seat. This will severely hurt your baby! Look at coccoro flip issue on youtube to see what I mean. And the company is aware of this problem! Their solution is a “foam block” they ship to you. Seriously, call them and ask if you don’t believe me!! This product should be removed from the market. I have never been so upset with a product as I am with this one. It is NOT SAFE! Do not purchase!
Comments from The Staff:
We contacted Combi on behalf of this situation, and this is what they had to say:
The Combi Coccoro is fully compliant with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 213 requirements for performance and design. It?s unique rounded bottom is designed to fit very well into most vehicles. We have identified some very dense vehicle seat cushions as posing a challenge in keeping the Coccoro at the correct pre-crash rear facing angle. We offer several solutions for the compatibility issue:
1. The use of a Combi Zeus 360 Recline Adjustment Pad (firm foam block) eliminates the back-flip by adding additional friction and support to the bottom of the seat when placed at the vehicle seat bight. The Adjustment Pad is available to all consumers at no charge by calling our Customer Care Line.
2. A slim swim noodle or tightly rolled towel wrapped in 1 layer of non-skid shelf liner will also offer additional friction to the bottom of the Coccoro and prevent back-flip.
It is very important for consumers to understand that unless a rear facing child restraint is equipped with Rebound Management Technology (commonly referred to as ?Anti-Rebound?) the child seat is designed to rotate toward the vehicle seat back cushion to manage the energies of the crash and allow for further rearward ride down of the infant?s body. As long as the rear facing seat is in position prior to the crash event, the seat will protect the child to its fullest intended capacity. This concept is valid for all rear facing child seats that do not have anti-rebound technology.
We have viewed the video posted by ?audlily27? on YouTube and have found that there are additional measures that could be taken to assure correct pre-crash installation on the demo seat in the video:
1. It is unclear if the Coccoro is correctly installed onto the demo seat with the lower LATCH Anchors. If it is, the seat belt may offer a better fit. The Coccoro has 3 options for seat belt installation technique:
a. Using the European Routing where the shoulder portion of the seat belt is secured around the back of the Coccoro through 1 blue lock-off
b. Using the common latch-plate (buckle tongue) to retractor path then engaging the retractor into the locked mode
c. Using the latch-plate (buckle tongue) to retractor path and locking the Coccoro into place using the provided separate unidirectional lock off.
2. The demo seat used does represent a real world vehicle but the seat back should be reclined to allow for better fit of the Coccoro. Whenever the vehicle seat back has the capability to recline, the Vehicle Owner?s Manual should always be consulted for correct vehicle seat back angle.

This is a great seat with high quality fabric that comes in a variety of cute colors. It is narrow enough to fit in my teenie car and it is so secure! My daughter loves sitting in it and it holds up to 40 lbs. Easy to install and not bad to look at either…
Could have been perfect

I truly wanted to love this car seat, but it’s just not quite right.
Pros: It’s light and a breeze to carry. Makes traveling much easier. Particularly with latch, transferring between vehicles is a lot easier than most. It takes a lot to twist the straps. The fabric is holding up well after 6 months of (ab)use. I was able to get a good, tight RF fit in a Saturn (bucket seats & all). The lack of base makes it a bit more challenging to get the angle right, but definitely doable. In center position, the other two seats are actually still usable. In non-center position, there are a good couple of inches between the door and the seat, which gives me a little extra peace of mind about SIP. The shoulder straps tighten and release in tandem, making it easy to get DD in and out. The “one pull” to tighten claim is an overstatement, but it’s still easier than most. I’ve also found it fits perfectly into a lightweight stroller and is easy to secure with a ratcheting tie down strap thanks to the integrated belt paths. Best. Travel System. Ever.
Cons: the designer of the “puzzle” buckle should be fired. Really, “puzzle” doesn’t belong in the same sentence as “car seat.” You do get used to it, but on the rare occasion I buckle DD into a different seat I’m amazed at how much easier it is to secure a squirmy toddler when you don’t have to keep those little tabs perfectly aligned. Extended RF’ing can be a challenge: the smaller footprint means feet start hitting the seat back sooner. DD took to hooking her arms over the back of the Coccoro and planting her feet into the Saturn seat back, making it rather difficult to wrestle her into position.
I can’t seem to get a good fit FF. No lower tethers in the car, so we used the seatbelt and top tether. It seems secure on installation, but within a few days (I think as a result of pulling up on the harness strap) it gets really loose. Annoying to have to constantly re-install, and doesn’t make me feel good about what would happen in a crash. Hopefully with a little more practice, and maybe a call to Combi I can get that resolved.
Thank goodness

I had a hard time finding a car seat that would fit in my 2003 Volkswagen Jetta, this is a perfect fit. My husband who is 6’2″, myself 5’9″, were having a hard time with a car seat that was safe and would fit allowing comfortable driving. This is it!!! The installation was straight forward with more than one option to install. For those that say the install is difficult I found that if I tilt the seat forward and tighten the belt then level the seat out, it holds securley with no wobble. If you have a compact car this is the seat for you.

We were very excited about this car seat. We have had issues finding a rear facing car seat that fits in our compact car. This seat is small and light. However, we tried and tried but could not get this seat to feel secure when installed. I am confident that we had it installed correctly–but it moved around quite a bit and was not nearly as secure as our Britax Boulevard in our other car. It has the cheaper latch connections and the way the latch belt fits in its belt path is tenuous. It felt like if you happened to bump the seat wrong that the latch strap would come out of the path it was intended to be in. In the end we returned the seat because we could not get it to fit securely. I wish it would have worked–is cute and like I said very light and compact.

First, I don’t ever write reviews, but felt the need to as this car seat saved my car. I own an Acura TL and my wife wanted me to trade it in for something w/ a more spacious back seat because we have 2 year old and a 3 month old. The problem was not the room for the seat. It was after the seat was in. My wife is small so a car seat behind her is no problem, however being 6 foot it’s tough for me to drive when my chest is almost in the steering wheel. My wife read about the Coccoro while searching the web for a compact car seat. Long story short this seat has been a savior. The black one is very stylish.
Cute and comfy

We ended up returning our Coccorro seat because it would not fit (at a police safety check) rear-facing right next to a forward Radian XT in our 2004 Malibu. It torqued to one side. Forward facing would have fit, but we wanted one that would fit longer so we just ended up buying a second Radian XT. The other side of the Radian in the middle, has a Britax Companion infant seat, and it fits. So we DO have three car seats across the back! The Coccorro is cute and stylish, but the lighter colors have a white hue to the fabric. I can imagine it would get really dirty with muddy shoes and spilled juice! If you are trying for three seats across the back row, try the Cocorro. It might or might not work for you, either three Cocorros or other seats as well. If it works, I’d say the seat is a good find. I would only buy this seat if I had a space issue (great for that!) or if I had to move it a lot or travel with it, and it’s light. If I have ample space and don’t plan on taking it out of the car, I’d go with a wider, heavier seat.
